Riverwood is Growing

hoolyhocksRiverwood Garden Development Update

During the spring season, big strides were made by the Campaign for the Mississauga Garden Park and the City of Mississauga towards the creation of gardens at Riverwood.  Working with Landplan Collaborative Ltd., the lead consultant for the design of the MacEwan Terrace gardens at Riverwood, including the development of a wayfinding, park sign and donor recognition system, a preliminary garden concept was created and presented to City Council during the May 14 General Committee meeting.  City Council was in support of the preliminary concept and was enthusiastic to see the plan come to life on site.

At the beginning of June in the MacEwan Barn, Campaign donors were given the opportunity to preview the garden design concept and architect’s drawings. Following this the City will be sharing the garden plan and drawings with the public.

A target completion date has tentatively been set for 2009 for the MacEwan Terrace garden development and donor recognition pieces. Construction is tentatively scheduled to begin in the fall of 2008.

Through the design process an extensive and appropriate program will be developed to recognize the numerous donors to the Campaign for the Mississauga Garden Park who have ultimately supported the vision of creating a spectacular garden for all Mississauga residents to enjoy, now and in the future. All recognition elements will be installed during the final stage of the MacEwan Terrace garden construction.

Ongoing updates will be provided as the City proceeds through the garden development process and information can be accessed through the City’s website at www.mississauga.ca/parks or by calling 905-896-5328.
