The Riverwood Mornings with the Experts program offers lectures and “hands-on” workshops on gardening and horticulture and environmentally responsible gardening practices.

Fall Riverwood Mornings with the Experts Workshops:

This fall, we have exciting workshops planned for you.  We have Saturday morning workshops on:

  • Correct Pruning with Ease Workshop with Jim Lounsbery - Saturday Oct 18 - to learn how and when to prune trees, shrubs, evergreens, roses and perennials
  • Outdoor Winter Containers Workshop with Paul Zammit - Saturday Nov 22 - to create your own holiday outdoor winter containers!

Riverwood Walks and Talks

Riverwood Walks and Talks is a fun, seasonally focused, Saturday adult and family program offered to the community in the morning (unless noted otherwise).  Led by expert naturalists, programs generally last 1.5 to 2 hours.

Fall Riverwood Walks and Talks

  • Discover Riverwood's Wild Fish - Saturday October 4, 9 am sharp to 11 am, MacEwan Barn with Sherwin Watson-Leung from the Credit Valley Conservation - see the annual salmon run, learn about the river’s ecology, the myriad of species the salmon run impacts and find out how climate and mankind have each impacted the native fishery
  • The Fabulous World of Fall Trees - Saturday October 25, 9 am sharp to 11 am, MacEwan Barn with Dawn Renfrew from the Credit Valley Conservation - join us for a pleasant walk in the woods of Riverwood and learn how to identify some of the trees and learn about the park's ecology.

Partnership "Hands-on" Workshops

Hands-on workshops in partnership with CVC and the Toronto Zoo have included:

• Winter Tree Identification 
• How to Monitor Turtle and Amphibian Populations
• Invasive Species Monitoring and Inventory 
• Birding By Ear and Eye: A mini-course

Guided Walks and Tours of Riverwood

Naturalists offer walking tours through Riverwood. The terrain allows for heart-healthy casual and/or intrepid aerobic walks. Guided walks last 1.5 to 2 hours.

Guided walks can be general or designed to focus on wildlife and natural history, heritage, gardens and wildflowers.

We invite any groups interested to call us for information at 905-279-5878 or contact Dave at education@MississaugaGardenCouncil.org   A minimal fee is charged that supports MGC programs.
